Military* | circa 1942 | He was in the military circa 1942 After being in the Navy Reserves first, he was called to active duty in January 1941 but was given a medical discharge. Subsequent to the attack on Pearl Harbor in December, he went back to the recruiting office where they turned him down again, suggesting that he write to the commandant, explaining the minor reasons for the medical discharge. When he tried again in June 1942 they were in need of radio operators and he had a 1st class amateur radio license. So they took him on waivers and he went active. He was stationed in the Aleutians, working with microwave radios. At one point, he was at Camp Shoemaker in CA but we don't know if that was before or after the Aleutians. |
