These notes for JOSEPH DELONG were compiled by Karen Feisel, and are used with her permission. My hope is that her analysis will help others, and that somehow we can all come together to figure out his ancestors. According to "The Compendium of American Genealogy 1600-1800, Vol. V Liineage Records" Joseph was in the War of 1812. Joseph is shown as living in Clayton Twp., Perry Co., OH in the 1820 census with details as follow: one male age 26 thru 44; one male age 10 thru 15; three males under age 10; one female age 26-44; one female age 10-15; one female under age 10; one individual working in agriculture. Also living in that township is his brother Isaac. A further connection to Perry Co. is the baptism record of his daughter Mary on Jan. 10, 1819.
Joseph and his wife Elizabeth were living in Perry Co., OH on Dec. 21, 1822 as evidenced by a document concerning the sale of lands of deceased George DeLong (Joseph's father).
The following info comes from Ancestry com, such info supplied by DeLong researchers such as John Baldwin, Carla Nash, and Todd Reeves:
- 1790: Joseph would have been in his parents' home in Mifflin Co. (now Centre Co.), PA
- 1799: Probably with his parents in Ohio Co., VA (now WV)
- 1802: Probably with his parents in Guernsey Co. (then Belmont Co.), OH
- 1806: About this time married Elizabeth, born 178_ in NJ per son Edward in 1880.
- 1809: It is not known if Joseph went to Floyd Co., KY 1803-1805 with his brother George Jr., but he was presumably there in May 1809 when he gave or was given a 500-acre mortgage to or by Thomas Brown.
- 1810: Joseph had credit levy allowed by John Hawes (Floyd Co., KY February court). By May 1810 his brother George had returned to Ohio and probably Joseph had also.
- 1811: Joseph's son William, by traditional lore, was born in the area of Zanesville, Muskingum Co., OH. Joseph may have been a Justice of Peace; his brother David DeLong's marriage to Jeanne Law was performed by a Joseph DeLong in 1811.
- 1812: Joseph served in the 3rd Ohio Regt. (Land Bounty Records).
- 1817: He resided in Perry Co., OH.
- 1820: Joseph is listed in the census for Clayton Twp., Perry Co., OH. On Oct. 19, 1820 he bought land in Perry Co. from his sister Ann Leeth and her husband.
- 1828: His wife Elizabeth was buried Apr. 13, 1828, St. Joseph's Church, Somerset, Perry Co., OH (although Carla Nash says it was St. Joseph's Church in Guernsey Co., OH which is doubtful).
- 1830: Joseph is listed in the census for Clayton Twp., Perry Co., OH
- 1831: His will is dated July 16, although someone has stated it was dated Mar. 4, 1826 -- perhaps 1831 was when the will was probated? The 1826 date is unlikely as the will does not mention Joseph's wife who didn't die until 1828. Joseph's sons Isaac and David were named as his executors. The will names nine of his children.

Karen Feisel has on file a copy of pg. 359 from "Gateway to the West", Volume 2, compiled by Bowers and Short, which is on file at the Fairfield Co. District Library in Lancaster, OH. Page 359 contains abstracts of wills from Perry County, OH, one of which is that of Joseph DeLong, dated July 16, 1831 (no notation as to whether this is the date the will was signed or the date it was probated). It states that no wife is mentioned in the will, but nine children are listed: William, Lydia, Joseph Edward, Augustine, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah, Cecelia and Lucinda. Executors are shown to be Isaac and David DeLong. Witnesses were Sam. Curran and Isaac DeLong. (NOTE THAT NO SONS BY THE NAME OF ISAAC AND DAVID ARE GIVEN; THUS THE REFERENCE ABOVE REGARDING 1831 AND JOSEPH'S WILL BEING EXECUTED BY HIS "SONS ISAAC AND DAVID" IS OBVIOUSLY INCORRECT. ISAAC AND DAVID WOULD HAVE BEEN JOSEPH'S BROTHERS.)
Ohio land records state that on September 14, 1807 a Joseph DeLong, residing in Muskingum Co., OH, purchased land in Range 8, Twp. 8, Section 5 of what would today be in Wayne Twp., Noble Co., OH. Also on July 16, 1812 a Joseph DeLong purchased land in Range 7, Twp. 8, the Southwest quarter of Section 4, 159.65 acres, which today would be in Beaver Twp., Noble Co.
Roger DeLong, an internet correspondent, says that Joseph went to Kentucky with his brother George DeLong, Jr., and in the 1850's Joseph's family moved to Texas.
