Source* | | Source(s): John and Mary were natives of Germany, "scions of prominent families in the German empire." Son Christopher was born in Germany about 1750 and came with them to America where in 1755 they settled in Loudon Co VA. They later lived in Fayette and Green Counties PA just prior to Revolution, then shortly after the war Mary, (after she was widowed and married Joshua B Allen) brought her 7 sons and daughters with her (soon after Revolution). to Harrison Co, setting in Hepzibah. The article gives pension info for son John and states that sons Christopher and John were discharged at Fort Pitt (now Pittsburgh) but that only John had a pension.1 |

Residence | 1778 | In 1778 John William Swiger resided at Uniontown, Fayette Co., Pennsylvania. Son John said that he resided in Fayette Co PA from the time he was 18 until the conclusion of the war. It may be that he was on his own at that time or the whole family could have been there as well. |
Death* | | He died Tradition says that when his stocks of merchandise was near exhaustion, he sailed back to Germany to replenish and was never heard from again. It is supposed he and his small craft were swallowed up by the ocean waters. Executors invested (redeemed) his money in land in (now) Barbour Co WV, and land reverted to government when heirs failed to pay the taxes on it. |
