Lucinda A. "Lucy" Tinder, daughter of Rev. James Tinder and Tabitha Redding, was born between 1815 and 1818 depending on how she reported her age in the varying censuses. She first married Alfred Bunton (note the spelling) on 17 Oct 1836 Jackson County, Indiana; after Alfred Bunton's death in 1845, she married Jonathan Tullis in 1847; after his death she married Benjamin Mosely in 1856; and then Alvin Purdy in 1878, who apparently died soon as she is listed as Lucy Baker in the 1880 Butler Co, Mo census. I descend from Lucinda Tinder and Alfred Bunton's son John Tinder Bunton, my great-great-grandfather.

According to a family story, Rev James Tinder wanted his family Bible and the Tinder family record to go to one of his sons after his death. This Bible recorded information on his parents and further back on the Tinder lineage, proving many questions for current Tinder research. Lucinda asked her husband (Jonathan Tulllis) and her son John Tinder Bunton to go to her fathers house and transcribe (Jonathan) the very old history of the Tinder immigration to America from the Bible. This was while her father Rev James Tinder was living.

It is thought that the early Tinder history kept by Rev James Tinder was supposed to go to either his son Asa or Elijah K, but they both died before their father, so it is possible that Elijah or Asa's children could not collect it, and it went to William Jefferson Tinder or Timothy P. Tinder. (The story is that after Rev James death, a grandchild tried to claim it on his fathers behalf, but James widow was influenced by a living son of Rev. James; however we don't know which relative got the Bible. There were no hard feelings between family members it seems and the matter was easily settled, but we don't know which branch got the very early Tinder history).

But that leaves us with the transcript written by Lucinda Tinder Bunton Tullis' husband. An interesting anecdote is that as Jonathan Tullis was writing the account in a new large Bible which he had bought from monies from his wife's deceased husband Alfred Bunton, Rev. James Tinder wanted extra things put in...so Tullis added anecdotes about when and how the Tinder family immigrated to America and their time in the Revolutionary War, and spiritual experiences. There is a description of a very valuable Bible with much early history in the John Tinder Bunton family, burning in a granddaughters house in the 1930's, but so far no one can ascertain if it was from this line, or just another family Bible, which could be from another family, the Reed or Rains (related to the granddaughter).

So the end result is that there is a very early history, which has Bunton, Tinder, and other family info in it, among some of Lucinda's descendants or the two sons of Alfred by his first wife. Their names were Francis Marion Bunton, who stayed in Jackson Co, Indiana, and George Bunton, who went to Missouri.
