Andrew Coffinberry, a native of Virginia, born in Martinsburg, Virginia (now West Virginia) moved to Chillicothe, Ohio with his parents in 1806 and moved on to Lancaster the following year. Confinberry served two years in the navy, read law in Mansfield. From 1815 to 1836 he studied and practiced law at Mansfield, Ohio. He moved to Perrysburg in 1836, and died at Findlay, May 12, 1856. Coffinberry acquired the title, Count Coffinberry, because of his manner of dress, refined ways, and kindness toward young lawyers of the local bar.

"He remained with his father during the war of 1812-13, living sometimes in a log cabin, and at others, when the settlement was menaced by hostile Indians, in one of the two blockhouses erected upon the public square of the village. At the close of the war, he read law with John M. May Esq. at Mansfield, where he continued to reside until he removed to Berrysburg in 1836." His info on the census included Coffinberry, Andrew 61 b.VA assistant census agent $1500 - confirming that this is a second entry for Andrew's census entry is this from the Coffinberry book: "Count Coffinberry in his old days, was in public service in california, and had charge, with one of his sons, of taking the census of that newly acquired territory, either prior to or on its admission as a state. From that service and the Pacific Coast he returned."1
