Source* Source(s): He made his settlement in 1775 on 350 acres adjoining lands of John Simpson, and was granted a preemption right to 1000 acres adjoining. Allen and his son, Barnes Allen, came from Scotland to VA, emigrated to Ft Pitt (now Pittsburgh) PA and moved from that point to what is now known as Hepzibah, a town located on federal highway #19 five miles north of Clarksburg. He died prior to 21 Nov 1810 because that's when his son Barnes was appointed administrator of his personal estate.1
