Burial* He was buried at Blue River Chapel Cemetery, Near Morristown, Shelby Co., Indiana, Tombstone says age 57y 9m 25d - The cemetery is located near present-day (November 2002) Morristown, IN. From US Highway 52 in Morristown, turn south on S. Washington St (Post Office is on the corner). This street turns into N. Morristown Road. Go south until a four-way stop is reached at County Road 625N. Go east (left) until the road makes a Y at County Road 400E. The cemetery is located on the west side of County Road 400E. Also, going north from Shelbyville, take Highway 9 and go east up the Morristown Pike to 400E. The gravesite and one other is located in the last row to the left of a huge evergreen type tree and facing a little creek. Jacob's stone has a corner broken off. Elizabeth Ash wife of James Washington Ash, son of Jacob, is buried in this cemetery and quite possibly James Washington Ash. Since there is much confusion with several cemeteries using the name "Blue River" there is another cemetery located very close to this one. From the above instructions go to the intersection of County Roads 600N and 500E. Go south on County Road 500E until a red brick church on the south side of the road is located. The Blue River Chapel Baptist Cemetery is located across the road from the church.
Researcher*24 September 2002  As of 24 September 2002, Steve Ash AMASCASH3@aol.com is researching the line of Jacob Ash: Read your article about an Ash in the Civil War that had his eye poked out and filled with sand, do you remember ? I would like to know his name, if you have it. The piece was from a story told to you by some woman back in 1984. Just found out that James W. Ash filed for pension for being in Confederate Army of Virginia from July 1, 1861. When I sent for any service records back in 1980s they could not find any. Do you have anything on this? His brother John might have been the one captured and had his eye poked out since he was a prisoner held at a Union Prison outside Columbus, Ohio, and died in 1868. Could he have been the one that was sabotaging the B.+O. Railroad since my notes claim that he and three of his brothers left Indiana to go back to Virginia once they reached manhood. The four were John, James W., Issac. and Eli D. C. all sons of Jacob and Isabella Marsh Ash. James and Eli D.C. headed back to Indiana soon after the Civil War started but Issac and John stayed. Maybe James W. was a deserter? Can you shine any light on this subject.
I believe that the Ash was John G. E. Ash married to Dorcas Glover in Arvil's book. He worked for the B+O Railroad and did serve in a Union Prison Camp near Columbus, Ohio. Did any of his descendants ever tell of John having only one eye? His father was my Jacob Ash that moved to Shelby Co., Ind. in 1835.
