Birth*1798 Nancy Downs was born in 1798 at South Carolina birth year from tombstone. It is very likely that she was born in the second half of the year because the census records are consistant in her age: 56 in1855, 61 in 1860, 71 in 1870, & 81 in 1880. If she had already had her birthday by the time of the census, she would have been born in 1799.
Marriage*3 October 1816 She married William Price on 3 October 1816 at Newberry Co., South Carolina, Hannah (_____) Johnsey was at their wedding, she being a resident of Cass county (now Bartow Co) GA on 13 Jul 1854 when she had an affidavit in the pension. She was found in the 1850 census (spelled Joncy) in Division 12, Cass, GA with husband Jesse (46 b.SC), Hannah being 43 b.SC. Cursory research indicates Jesse Johnsey is son of James Johnsey & Mary Polly Grant, and James is son of John Johnsey & Sarah Lockhart, all per trees on Ancestry. Jesse is in Chester county SC in 1840, and that's two counties away from Laurens county. James lived in Laurens county 1810-1840 before moving to Chester county where he was living in 1850 just before his death. No indications that they are related to William Price or Nancy Downs, so she must have just been a friend.1,2
Residence*1819  In 1819 Nancy Downs resided at Laurens Co., South Carolina.
Census1820*1820 She was the head of the household in the 1820 census, Laurens Co., South Carolina, with 1m26-45 (William) 1f16-26 (Nancy) 1f0-10 (Sarah).
Residence1825  In 1825 Nancy Downs resided at Greenville Co., South Carolina.1
Note*8 October 1825 Note(s): on 8 October 1825 at Greenville Co., South Carolina, husband died.
Residence1826  In 1826 Nancy Downs resided to Buncombe Co NC.
QuestionableParent* She and (__________) (__________) had the following question about being parents There are Bibles which say that William Price is the father of Temperence and Washington. However, he died in SC 8 Oct 1825, before they were born and before Nancy moved to NC. So this is a major puzzle.
Census1830*1830 Nancy Downs was the head of the household in the 1830 census, pg 251, Buncombe Co., North Carolina, with 1m0-5 (James) 1m10-15 (John) 1f0-5 (Temperence) 1f5-10 (Mary) 1f10-15 (Sarah) 1f30-40 (Nancy).
Census1840*1840 She was the head of the household in the 1840 census, pg 319, no twnshp listed, Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina, with 1m5-10 (Washington) 1m15-20 (James) 1m20-30 (John) 1f10-15 (Temperence) 1f15-20 (Mary) 1f20-30 (Sarah) 1f50-60 (Nancy).

Residence14 April 1855  In 14 April 1855 Nancy Downs resided at Gilmer Co., Georgia. Age 56.1
Deed*26 April 1856  On 26 April 1856 Nancy apparently sold 80 acres to Walter B Beebe. She had land warrant 19137 from husband William's military service. Per info found on Ancestry, Walter Butler Beebe (1817-1894) married Maria Bayless Welch 4 May 1841 in Harrison Co OH, and died there as well. Per the land warrant file, he "located" the land in the W1/2 SE1/4 Section 17 Township 101 Range 5 Since that is in Houston Co. Minnesota, it must have been an investment. There is no known connection between Nancy and Walter.3
