|Biography*|| Additional info on Lester Rhinehart Jr.|
After spending a couple years in the Navy in the mid 1950's, Les went back to Washington for a short time, then moved to California. By the late 1950's, he was teaching instrumental music in Carmel, where he frequently passed by Studio Weavers, owned by Russ Brown. Russ became his mentor as he developed an interest in weaving, and Les became a business partner in the shop in the late 1950's. Later on, Lynn Fox became a part time employee there, and the three of them moved to Hawaii in 1977. Sunset Magazine did an article on Les in one of their specialty books on weaving in 1960's.
When they moved to Hawaii, Russ, his cousin Henry, and Lynn bought a house, and Les lived in the rental cottage. Russ died in 1986 of bone marrow cancer. Les had a little dog named Muffin, a mixed breed terrier who died June 1994, Muffin was probably in mid teens. Since she was a stray, her age wasn't known. He wasn't planning to have another dog, but plans changed with the entry of miniature schnauzer nicknamed Cookie, born 10 Apr 1994. Her registered name is "Lady Oreo of Kailua", and Les actually got permission from Nabisco to use the name.
Les worked in the tour industry for several years with MTI Vacations; rotating among 15 tour desks throughout Waikiki. He also enjoyed part time acting on TV as an extra (that's a non speaking role). Some of the shows he was in: Jake & The Fatman, Magnum PI, Raven, Island Son, One West Waikiki - Les was also involved in singing and performing in Hawaii Opera Theatre; 1995 being his 15th season with them.
In 2003, Les retired to Olympia Washington.
