Name Variation  Robert 'Robin' Harkness was also known as Robert Harkness Draper Manuscript Collection 3S165. His nephew Joseph Tomlinson, referred to him as HarKness not HarTness.
Birth* He was born.
Military*1777 He was in the military in 1777 Served in Captain Foreman's Company at Wheeling, also with Captain Heyser's Company in the German Regiment commanded by Colonel Hausseggor through Apr 1777 then by Colonel Arendt through May 1777. The German Regiment joined Washington's forces on 16 Dec 1776 who was preparing for the Battle of Trenton. They fought in the Battles of Trenton and Princeton. Jacob Greathouse and Robert Harkness were named as present on muster rolls at Quibbletown, NJ in Oct 1776, May 1777 and Jul 1777. The Jun 1777 roster is missing with a copy of Jul 1777 roster duplicated in the service file. On the May 1777 and Jul 1777 rosters, both Robert Harkness and Jacob Greathouse were listed as deserted in Nov 1776, however they appear to have rejoined the Company by May and Jul 1777 when both were named as present.
Jacob Greathouse and Robert Harkness appear to have joined Captain William Foreman's Company by enlisting in the Hampshire County Home Guard in Aug or Sep 1777. However, enlistments in the German Regiment were for three years unless discharged early. I highly doubt that Jacob Greathouse and Robert Harkness were discharged early... so did they really enlist in Captain Heyser's Company at Romney, Hampshire County or perhaps another event prompted their transfer to Fort Henry.1
