Ugh. It's Frenkendorf, Canton Basel, Switzerland and Martin Tschudy seems to be a common name there in the Ancestral File. 'Martin Tschudy, the cooper, legitimate son of Martin Tschudy of Frenckendorf and Elisabeth Tschudy, (brother of Johannes, the emigrant of 1749), bapt. July 31, 1735, who is going to Pennsylvania, has been manumitted by Our Gracious Lords July 25, 1767. Possessed lb. 252.8.10 worth of property. 'Elsbeth Tschudy, Martin Tschudy's widow, legitimate daughter of Imbert Tschudy and Anna Reinger of Frenckendorf, aged 72, who has gone to Pennsylvania, has been manumitted by Our Gracious Lords July 25, 1767. Basics: Immigrated 3 Nov 1752 on Queen of Denmark from Hamburg last from Cowes. Have copy of his signature. The Minister on the ship was Hinrich Burchard Gabriel Wortmann - find where he came from as maybe they all came together? Important surnames on same ship: Bauer, Ultsch, Voght, Wiese, Fischer, Henig, Jahn/Hahn, Moyer. 30 Sep 1995 - Hank Jones at Conejo Valley seminar - I gave him the following query: since the dead Germans chase you, I was wondering if the ones from the 1752 Queen of Denmark (from Hamburg) have ever chased you. (Attached neccesary docs). Second question: I have seen a book called Familiennamen in der Landgrafschaft - Hessen-Homburg. It looks to be an interesting way to see where there are concentrations of Reinharts. Are you familiar with this series of books and do you know what library might have them so I can get the Reinhard pages copied? What is your opinion on their worth for this idea? 2 Oct 1995 - He answered: No, I've never looked into any of the passengers on the 1752 Queen of Denmark ship from Hamburg. You might want to write my colleague Annette Burgert about this (address etc below). As to the whereabouts of the Familiennamen... as I told you at the conference, I just don't know. Annette may have some of these in her excellent home library. He also added a note: See the "Yearbook of the PA German Soc 1979" pg 167-8 for the data on Pastor Wortman. He was born at Mitteln Kirchen Nei (hei?) Stade and matriculated at Goettingan University 21 Apr 1738. "Served a parish near Hamburg". (His address: PO Box 261388 San Diego CA 92196-1388). Just for written verification, I am not asking to become a client, and understand that you are not taking new clients at this time. I am enclosing $10 as requested for you to check through your records and see if you have already done any research on any of the passengers from the 1752 Queen of denmark from Hamburg. I understand that sailing from Hamburg was very unusual at this time period. Enclosed is a family group sheet for my immigrant Johann George reinhard (JGR), and the passenger list with his name highlighted in blue. Also highlighted (in yellow) are the names of some of the people who were associated with him in some way. Some were neighbors, others had descendants who married Johann Georg's descendants. The minister on the ship was Hinrich Burchard Gabriel Wortmann, who doesn't seem to show up in the vicinity of JGR, but I know that the minister is always a clue to follow up. Henry Jones said there was some data on Pastor Wortmann in "Yearbook fo the PA German Society 1979) on page 167-168. That he was born at Mitteln Kirchen Nei Stade and matriculated at Goettingan University 21 Apr 1738 and "serverd a parish near Hamburg". Since I just got this clue from him today, I have not had a chance to find that publication yet. If tracking the minister or any of the other passengers does not lead to JGR's ancestral village, my next clue woud be to find where the greatest concentrations of Reinhards are located. Enclosed is title page and sample page from book that looks like it might be helpful. Kind like looking in a census index to see what counties have the largest concentrations of a name. Anyway, Salt Lake only had the one book from the Hessen-Homburg area, and I need to find out where there are others of these books to copy the Reinhard entries from. I would appreciate knowing if you have any more of this series, or know where they might be found (preferably in America). 29 Feb 1996 - Annette responded: I hardly know how to start this apology! Long before the Holidays, some letters were put aside with good intentions of answering late, but out-of-sight, out-of-mind. It's a good thing that spring housecleaning comes along, because I started through several stacks of papers, and was surprised to find the selft-addressed envelope that you had enclosed with your letter asking for help on the immigrant Johann Georg Reinhard on the 1752 Queen of Denmark. I enclose a page from Vol XII of the publications of the PA German Folklore Society (1948), an article titled Pennsylvania German Pioneers from the County of Wertheim. This indicates a possibility that the 1752 arrival might be the Johann Georg Reiner from Nassig who received an emigration permit that year. (Page 237 enclosed). Almost all of my research has been concentrated in the areas more to the south in Germany and Switzerland. I do have in my files a bit of information about this particular ship that might be of interest to you: The Queen of Denmark, 1752, Capt. George Parish, had 41 convicts from the Hamburg workhouse and jails aboard who were shipped out by order of the Hamburg Senate (city government). This was sent to me weveral years ago by Klaus Wust, the historian who wrote The Virginia Germans and many other works. He was planning to prepare and article about the convict transports, but I don't know if this has yet been published. He shared with me a few of the names, but your immigrant was not among them. But it certainly does explain the reason for the departure of this ship from that port. Again, my apologies for being so long in sending this to you. Clearly, the memory gets shorter as the years increase! The page she enclosed had this entry: Reiner, Johann Georg - Nassig (1752) May 20, 1752; single, wants to go to Pennsylvania with 130 florins. In the Village Mayor's Report for Nassig (1753), he is called "Hans Georg Reiner, single." // Perhaps Johann Georg Reinhard, Ship Queen of Denmark, Novenber 3, 1752 (Hinke, I, 506). It seems that he was not the George Reinerd, farmer of Upper Milford Tp., Northampton (now Lehigh) Co., Pa., in 1772 (3PA, XIX, 10), who was a Wurttemberger. I disagree with this entry that he's mine, because my guy had to be married since his son was born in May 1752. Stassburger lists the following (among others) as passengers with Johann Georg Reinhard (so watch for these people in Germany): Johann Henrich BAUER, Andereas ULTSCH, Joh. Sebastian VOGHT, Georg Bastian FISCHER, Peter WIESE, G.Leopold HENIG, Johann Zacharias JAHN, George Christian MEYER, Christoph MOYER. See page 15 in Rbt Edw book for more detail. M925782 1729-1807 1195061. Note that several things lead to Starkenburg in Hessen.
