Aler's history of Martinsburg and Berkeley County, West Virginia by F. Vernon Aler (SLC 908757.)
Name Variation  George Ludwig (Lewis) Coffinberry (Immigrant 1752) was also known as Georg Ludwig Kaffenberger.1
Birth*1728 He was born in 1728 at Stutgart, Wurtemburg, Germany, CAUTION - Scott book says Stutgart and early in the 18th century with no source for the information. In entry for grandson Andrew, it also says from Strasburg. If this is the same Georg mentioned by Rich Kaffenberger, then he was born 1728 in Lichtenberg.2,1
Immigration*14 September 1751 He and Maria Veronica Kimmel immigrated on 14 September 1751 http://bassett.net/genealogy/Coffinberry/CoffinberryImmigration.shtml ship St Andrew (see Strassburger) [List 165 C]
Captain: James Abercrombie From: Rotterdam By Way of: Cowes
Arrival: Philadelphia, 14 Sep 1751
Georg Ludwig Kassenberger - His future wife is also on the ship with her father Valentine Kimmel.
Marriage*circa 1752 George Ludwig (Lewis) Coffinberry (Immigrant 1752) married Maria Veronica Kimmel, daughter of Johann Valentine Kimmel and Anna Maria Beltzer, circa 1752 since she came with her family, the implication is that they met on the ship and married after arrival.
Residence*1752  In 1752 George Ludwig (Lewis) Coffinberry (Immigrant 1752) resided at Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., West Virginia. Per book, settled in Martinsburg in 1750. However, that is an error as they didn't immigrate until 1751, and Martinsburg wasn't established until October 1778. The author probably meant where Martinsburg is now located. According to the book, this is where all children born & marr. He changed name by VA Legislature about 1790 (haven't found Legislative proof). Book also says age 108 at death but that makes them too old for logical childbearing in 1750's & 1760's.3
Occupation He was Baptist Clergy & sickle maker.3
Deed*1763  In 1763 Have land grant 282 acres from Lord Fairfax dated 1763, surveyed 1760 - see attached exhibits.
(MentionedIn) Probate10 January 1769 He was mentioned in a probate of Johann Valentine Kimmel on 10 January 1769 at Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. as Ludwick Kauffenberger; Administrative papers were granted to son Philip per Lancaster County Intestate Record Book 2 pg 42. Per Lancaster County Orphans Court record Book 1768-1772 pg 175, Philip filed the administrator's account for his father's estate on 6 Mar 1770 and reported a balance of 47 pounds 14 shillings and 10 pence available for distribution. The amount was distributed among Valentine's six children (named, with spouses). The inventory is in Lancaster County Historical Society Archves, inventory file, original document.4
Event-Misc*4 April 1777  On 4 April 1777 at Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., West Virginia, George Ludwig (Lewis) Coffinberry (Immigrant 1752) had the following misc event: George Lewis Coffinberry was a witness to the will of Daniel May. It is unknown if this was a friend or relative.
