Census1860*1860 He appeared on the 1860 census in what seems to be a boarding house with other unrelated people, pg 483 #1697-1658, San Pedro, Los Angeles Co., California. His info on the census included: Tomlinson, John J 35 b.MD merchant $8000-$15,000.1 
Relation*1861 "John M. Griffith came to Los Angeles in 1861, having four years previously married a sister of John J. Tomlinson. With the latter he formed a partnership in the passenger and freight-carrying business, their firm competing with Banning & Company until 1868, when Tomlinson died."3 
Death*7 June 1867 He died on 7 June 1867 at San Bernardino Co., California, though he resided in Los Angeles Co (per probate.)2,4

     The relatives who disputed the will (they seemed to have lost) were his siblings: William T Tomlinson, Sarah A Griffith, Henrietta Smith (Mrs David), James H Tomlinson, and Mrs Duffield (first name not given). The first three gave affidavits, the latter two were only represented by their attorney.4 
Burial* He was buried at Hollywood Cemetery, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California.2
