| Military* | He was in the military extract (by Cheryl Bills) of pension: old age and the consequent laps of memory he cannot swear positively as to the precise length of his service, but according to the best of his recollection, he served not less than the periods mentioned below and in the following grades: for two months as a Sergeant acting for one of those months as a clerk with the rank and pay of sergeant, for three months and ten days as a Corporal and two months as a private and for such service he claims a pension; that in year 1781, he removed from Rupert to Rutland in Vermont where he resided until 1816 when he removed to Painsville, Geauga County, where he resided a few weeks, removed to Concord in the same county where he resided ten years, and then removed to Kirtland aforesaid where he has since resided; that he was born at Suffield, Connecticut October 27th 1756 and has a record of his age in his family bible; that he has procured the certificates of the Treasurer of the State of Vermont certifying the extracts from the pay rolls to prove part of his siad service which is here to ... that he has no other documetary proof, no discharge in writing ever have been given to him; and he knows of no person whose testimony he can procure to prove his said service--that the reason why he has not applied before was that his service was by short tours and he was unwilling to undertake to specify them all under oath, until he learnt of and procured the .... certificate from the Treasurers Office to refresh his memory as to the short tours of service, and was ignorant until recently that the said Treasurer's office would contain the evidence.
