Note* DNA proves that He(r)man is a descendant of William Bassett of the Fortune. There are various proofs that Oliver Harmon Bassett is the son of Samuel Chipman Bassett and Anna Harmon and that there was another son of that union. Oliver was married to Lucy Celesta Stanton. Their daughter Semira specifically says that her mother married her father's brother Herman.
It is interesting to note that someone else also had Lucy married to both Oliver Harmon and Herman.
Christensen triviton@msn.com on an Ancestry tree (no longer there) has this Lucy Celesta Stanton married to both a Heman and an Oliver Harman.

This trail started in Kirtland, Ohio (left May 1st), and proceeded via Akron, Mansfield, and Dayton, Ohio; Richmond, Indianapolis, and Clinton, Indiana; Paris, Decatur, Springfield and Pittsfield, Illinois; Louisiana, Moberly, and Richmond, to near Liberty, Missouri. on 1 May 1834.

Event-Misc*1842  In 1842 Oliver Harmon Bassett had the following misc event: That he had three children by this time is found in his daugher's autobiography.
"My father and mother separated when I was 4 years old, I then went to live with my grandparents in Lima. My father had so little faith in Mormonism he wished to return to Ohio to his mother and take his 3 children with him."
No indication whether the grandparents in Lima were the Stantons or not, not sure where they lived at this time. Also unknown is if he did indeed take the children for awhile or not but later implication is that he took son but not daughters.1
