Cannonsville originally was Dickonson City. Prior to 1808 Tompkins was Pinefield. Cannonsville Post Office closed in 1962 when they started flooding for the dam. As the water built up, it took over the area that had been Cannonsville, Rock Rift, Rockroyal, and Granton. In 1984, the State Senator was Charles D Cook who was born in Tompkins. The book was written in 1984 by Perry Shelton at Cannonsville, Tompkins Twnshp, Delaware Co., New York.
