Story*circa 1895 Copy of clipping from Carroll County, Missouri newspaper found in the old Jeffries Bible that belonged to Thomas Pettit Jeffries:
     Birthday Party—
For, 28 years last past, the children and neighbors of Mrs. Elizabeth Jeffries have been meeting at her residence with well filled baskets, and luxuries and delicacies to please the children and make glad the heart of man. Yesterday the 23rd of June, right royally and loyally was the occasion of her 93rd anniversary celebration.
Mrs. Jeffries was born in Washington County, Kentucky, on the 23rd day of June, 1803. She came to Livingston County in the fall of 1848, and to her present residence in the fall of 1849, where she has since resided. Her eyesight and hearing are somewhat impaired, but her mental faculties are remarkably vigorous. If you want the old lady to jump on you with both feet, say something favorable about Andrew Jackson. She was a Whig in his time.
There were 51 people who took dinner there yesterday, and several more came after dinner. There were 13 grandchildren present. After dinner was over Jasper Broyles took a photograph of the crowd. Long may she live and many more anniversaries be had with the pleasure incident, thereto.2
Death*24 December 1896 Elizabeth Marshall died on 24 December 1896 at Hurricane Twnshp, Carroll Co., Missouri, at age 93.
Burial* She was buried at Bapt Church Cemetery, Hurricane Twnshp, Carroll Co., Missouri.
Obituary Her obituary: at Carroll Co., Missouri, Copy of clipping from Carroll County, Missouri newspaper found in the old Jeffries Bible that belonged to Thomas Pettit Jeffries:
Mrs. Elizabeth Jeffries was born in Washington County, Kentucky, June 23. 1803. Married Elder Elijah Jeffries March 3, 1832, in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, came to Missouri 1848, moved to Carroll County where she resided until her death 24th of July 1896. Mrs. Jeffries whose maiden name was Marshall (a relative of the once well known Thomas Marshall) joined the Methodist Church early in life, remained a member until 1832 when she cast her lot with the Separate Baptist Church where her husband was a preacher. She remained a member of that church until 1892, when she united with the Missionary Baptist Church, and continued in the fellowship until her death. Mrs. Jeffries was a remarkable woman. She had very decided views which she maintained with pertinacity, had a fine intellect, and extraordinary conversational powers which she retained to the last. She was well informed in the Scriptures which she studied and read with great delight. Farewell, dear Mother.2
Story2 September 1952 The following data is from a letter from Mrs. Winnie Daugherty, of Tina, Missouri. September 2, 1952:
My mother, Robbie Ann Calloway McCollow, was the daughter of Eliza Ann Humphress (Jeffries) Calloway. Eliza Ann was my own grandmother, altho, • she died before I was born. My mother has a record of all the children of Elijah Jeffries. Mother was 85 years old on March 6, 1952, the only member of that family living. My mother tells me that there were six children from the first marriage, and, six from the second marriage. My mother was the sixth child of the first marriage. Her mother, Lucy Pettit, died when she was three weeks old. Mrs. Marshall, a neighbor, and her daughter, Elizabeth, took her and her sister, Lucy Jane, to raise after the death of their mother. Within three months after the death of the first wife, Lucy, Elijah Jeffries married his neighbor, Miss Elizabeth Marshall, and, therefore, took his little girls back home with him and their new mother.2
