As of Sep 2012 the original is in possession of descendant Kay Bassett who lives in Riverton Utah. It was in a box of photos from Pearl Bassett Loggi, Ralph Lowe's daughter - who is now deceased. Pearl is a sister of William Henry Bassett (Kay's grandfather) and daughter of Ralph Lowe Bassett - oldest son of Heman Bassett. The photo is mounted on a board that says "Philadelphia" or "Philadelphia Studios". No year is visible. Based on clothing and other things, the likely date is 1870-1872. Kay says that there are no other items identifying Heman or written by him. It is thought that the listing that he died in Philadelphia came from the photo - not from any facts. It's far more likely he died in California or Nevada - or even Utah.
